Dallas Florist Brings Avant Garde to Interior Photography Sessions
If you’re looking to take your interior photography sessions to the next level, you need to outsource two roles in additional to your photographer: interior styling and professional floral design. Often an interior stylist will source and style floral as part of their job. That certainly works for many sessions, but if you really want to bring your A-game on session days—particularly if you’re planning to pitch for publication—consider hiring a florist.
In Dallas, we are lucky to have one of the best: Patricio Riviera of Twelve Thirty Four.
You may remember his floral designs from Dallas Kips Bay 2023—he was the genius behind the florals for Alessandra Branca’s (of Casa Branca) sky-high living room with the green leaf wallpaper. Do you remember that one?
I’ve photographed several interior spaces with Paricio’s florals that were already in place when I arrived at the session. But after recommending him to my designer client Mercedes Cotchery, he and I worked along side each other at the session, and it was truly a joy to partner with him as a creative team that day. It’s absolutely amazing to watch him take literal buckets of floral options—from large palm fronds to hand-painted orchids (yes, hand painted)—and create floral moments on the fly.
Here’s one of those moments:
What I love most about Patricio’s work is the sculptural nature each arrangement creates. Patricio is a master of scale, texture, color, and how these components work together within a specific space. His florals don’t just elevate a room—they take it to a different dimension.
What Avant Grade is to fashion, Patricio is to floral design.
He was so kind to answer a few of my questions I had about his artistry, and I’ve included his words below so you can be both inspired by what he does and know how to reach him for your next interior photography session. I highly recommend you consider adding him to your pool of Dallas talent! He and I make a great team, and we want to make your imagery as impactful as possible by collaborating on your interior photo session days.
A Brief Interview with Patricio Riviera
Where do you derive inspiration that fuels your artistry for Twelve Thirty Four?
“I believe the gap between humans and mother nature is so big. I want the world to be more appreciative. Everytime I create something new I think, ‘How can I make people get closer to nature now?’”
Who has influenced you the most as an artist and business owner?
“So many humans! But here are some: P Diddy, Anna Wintour, Chanel, Shakira and many more. I love their ways of execution, the sharpness of their steps.”
How can interior designers collaborate with you on photos session days?
“My team and I love digging into design aspects of a space and make it shine through floral! Start this conversation by emailing us contact@bypatriciorivera.com and talking to us about the elements of your design.”
Some designers are hesitant to invest in a professional florist for interior photo session days—what kind of advice would you give them?
“I totally understand their concerns. We aim to always help them achieve all their goals by capturing and highlighting their visual dreams. One advice I would give them is to make sure they have time to meet with us so they feel we have all information needed to be able to execute to our full potential. Also, let us do what we do best and you won’t be disappointed!”
What can an interior designer expect to spend on hiring a florist for an interiors photo session?
“Full-day sessions start around $2,000. This includes one or more planning meetings with the designer before the shoot date as well as labor on site, plus product. Keep in mind we source product for all over the world! Of course, pricing changes depending on the amount of hours invested on project and the types of product we use and where it comes from.”
What area in Dallas is your studio located, and where can interior designers find you online?
“Our studio is located in fair grounds, ten minutes away from uptown. We highly suggest to book an appointment before showing up so we can we prepare to be fully invested in your project! Find us online at www.bypatriciorivera.com and email contact@bypatriciorivera.com.”
